How an Eclipse Happens

by Amber Jennings

One fine day, Apollo was walking in the woods. He came across a small cottage, and he knocked on the door. A woman named Persephone opened the door, and although Apollo had never seen her before, he fell in love with her. Apollo lied and told her he was lost, but Persephone knew of his lies and banished him to the underworld.
After Apollo entered the underworld, he became angry with Persephone. He vowed that he would go back to Persephone; if she turned him down again, he would make the moon cross paths with the sun to cause darkness.
Apollo called to Persephone, and she came to him. No matter how many times he asked Persephone for forgiveness, she would turn him down. Apollo asked Zeus to set him free. Zeus set Apollo free, and Apollo went to go find Persephone. When Apollo had walked for miles and finally found her, he apologized  for the way he acted. He begged for forgiveness, but Persephone turned him away. Apollo made an eclipse from his anger, and he never saw Persephone again.
